Golf parent letter

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the Big Bear Middle School Junior Golf Team! This is our nineteenth
season and we are looking forward to a successful partnership with the Bear Mountain
Golf Course again this year. Also, this is our 15th year in the Mountain/Desert Middle
School Golf League which gives qualifying students a chance to compete for individual
as well as team honors in the our Spring season. Over the years, our team has done
well competing with other middle schools in both of these categories in the League
Championship held in May. However, our purpose remains the same here at Big Bear
Middle School; which is primarily to have fun, learn the proper rules and etiquette for
golf play, as well as to compete with other Middle School teams.

Bear Mountain Golf Course is presently offering season passes for Junior Golfers for
$150 and this is a generous offer for mid week play throughout the remainder of the
year. The season pass will be good midweek until the golf course closes for the year
due to weather. Tee Times are recommended on non-practice days; just call the golf
course at 585-8002. Golf Team members will also receive free golf balls on our practice
days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (2:30 – 4:00 pm) and we play at no cost these
days. Equipment is also available at no charge as needed. Middle School golfers get
the expert instruction of PGA Teaching Professional Dallas Goldsmith which is the
best way to learn and practice golf. The only financial obligation for members is to sell
$40 worth of BBMS Logo golf balls ( or just send a check payable to the BBMS Golf
Team) Our competitive season begins in April with matches played down-the-hill at local
golf courses. It is important to make sure your student has Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and
Thursdays available without other obligations.
Practice begins next Tuesday at the Bear Mountain Driving Range ( 2:30-4:00pm ) No
equipment necessary, but bring golf clubs if you have them. Middle School forms of
Participation and Calendars will be passed out then. We will be hitting golf balls as well
as discussing team expectations and standards. It is the parents’ responsibility to provide
transportation to and from the golf course so please be on time. Practice is officially over
at 4:00pm.
